Positivity rate in Southern Illinois Region jumps again to 9.1-percent

The positivity rate for COVID-19 in the Southern Illinois Region jumped again on Sunday and is now at 9.1-percent.  That’s a six-tenths of a percent increase over Saturday and the second day in a row the positivity rate is over the eight-percent rate that could lead to additional mitigation.   The Marion County rate jumped eight-tenths of a percent to 6.4-percent.

The Metro-East Region saw a two-tenths of a percent increase to 7.2-percent.  The East-Central Illinois Region remains at a positivity rate of 7.6-percent.   All the regional rates for the seven day period ending October 15th.

The statewide positivity rate of test results from the past week is 5.3-percent.  An additional 79,296 test results were added to Sunday’s total.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 4,245 new cases of the coronavirus disease on Sunday as well as 22 additional deaths.  Two of the deaths occurred in St. Clair County in the Metro East and one death in Macoupin County.

As of Friday night, 2,012 people in Illinois were in the hospital with COVID-19.  Of those, 408 patients were in the ICU and 157 on ventilators.
