2021 10/12 – Helen Imogene Lance

Helen Imogene Lance, 89, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed from this life at 4:15 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Mrs. Lance was originally from Waltonville, Illinois, and later resided in Decatur, Illinois.

Imogene was born December 30, 1931, in Nason, Illinois to the late Guy E. and Mary Evelyn (Baker) Peterson. On February 3, 1951, she married Coy M. Lance, of Waltonville, who preceded her in death in 1995.  Later, Imogene shared her life with Dale Landes of Decatur until his death in 2019.  Imogene is survived by her son, Ronald Lance and wife Mary Beth of Mt. Vernon; two granddaughters, Stephanie White and husband Greg of Sesser, Illinois,  Staci Bechtel and husband Brian of Belleville, Illinois,  four great-grandchildren:  Gabriel White, Maura White, Izaic Bechtel, and Sophia Bechtel.  Surviving siblings include Margie Beckham Neal of Decatur, Illinois, and Thomas Peterson and wife, Nancy of Salem, Illinois.  Imogene is preceded in death by her parents, husband Coy, special friend, Dale Landes, brothers Bobbie Joe “Col. Pete” Peterson, Marlin “Red” Peterson, and James Peterson.

Mrs. Lance worked for twenty-five years at the Regional Superintendent of Schools in Mt. Vernon, IL as the Project Uplift carrier.   She was a member of the Waltonville VFW Auxiliary, Waltonville Methodist Church, and later the New Day Community Church in Decatur, Illinois.  Imogene was an avid collector of antique glassware and Fostoria.   She loved holidays and buying gifts for others, especially for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2021, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Bruce Jacobs officiating.   Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn, Illinois.
