Sandra “Sandy” Marcum, 72, of Centralia, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at her home with her devoted family surrounding her in love and prayer. She was born on October 27, 1948, in Centralia, IL, the daughter of LeRoy Carl and Betty Jane (Starr) Newcomb. She married her sweetheart Jerry Lee Marcum on September 1, 1966, in Centralia, IL, and they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before his passing on September 27, 2016.
Sandy is survived by her devoted family; sons, David Marcum and wife Kathy of Centralia, Bill Marcum and Nikki of Centralia; daughter, Vicky Marcum of Centralia; 12 cherished grandchildren, Amanda, Elizabeth, Damian, Heather, Bobby, Jason, Tyler, Sierra, Trevor, Sandy, Amber, and Stephanie; 14 treasured great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack Newcomb, and wife Glenda, Doug Newcomb; sisters, Diana Pike and husband Harold, Cathy Simmons and husband Mike; brother-in-law, Stan Marcum and wife Carol; sisters-in-law, Linda Ritchie, Berta Marcum; several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Sandy was preceded in death by both her parents, LeRoy and Betty Newcomb; husband, Jerry Marcum; brother, Ricky Newcomb; nephew, Jason Marcum.
Sandy was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints in Centralia. As lifelong residents of Centralia, Sandy and her husband raised their family in their hometown and loved to go to the park and have picnics or sit by the lake. She was skilled at crocheting and loved to make Christmas stockings and holiday keepsakes for friends and family. She was known for having her grandchildren in the kitchen helping her with the holiday baking and cooking. The family was one of the most important things to Sandy and she was most proud of being called Grandma and Granny by her treasured grandchildren. She enjoyed studying genealogy and passing it down to her loved ones. Sandy will be dearly missed by everyone that knew her sweet smile.
Funeral Services in honor of Sandra Marcum will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021, at Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints in Centralia, IL with Bishop David Mooth officiating. Interment will follow in the Sandoval Cemetery in Sandoval, IL. Friends and family may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia and one hour prior to services on Friday at the Church. Memorials may be made to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
