2021 10/04 – Rufus Wooden

Rufus Wooden, 102, of Kinmundy passed away at 6:48 a.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at his home. Rufus was mainly a farmer but he had worked other jobs as a laborer, and was a driver for Project Bread in Salem and Kinmundy. He loved to tinker with motors, and work on lawnmowers and weed eaters, he also loved a good card game. He was a NFO member for many years.

Funeral services honoring the life of Rufus will be held at 12 noon, Monday, October 4, 2021 at the McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Kinmundy with Rusty Courson officiating, burial will follow at the Elder Cemetery, rural Kinmundy. Visitation will be held on Monday morning at the funeral home where friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or American Heart Association. Rufus is survived by his son; Robert Paul (Carol) Wooden, of Kinmundy, daughter – in – law; Carolyn Wooden, of Iuka, 6 grandchildren; Elizabeth (Paul) Prather, of Kinmundy, Rena Stow (special friend Donnie McElyea), of Kinmundy, Kristina (Roy) Wren, of Kinmundy, Bradley (fiancée Zennia) Wooden, of Kinmundy, Daniel Roger (Jennifer) Wooden, Jr., of Iuka, David (Mattie) Wooden, of Iuka, 19 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother; Nolan (significant other Nora) Wooden, of Kinmundy.

Rufus was born on March 26, 1919 at the family home in Marion County, the son of Jess and Zetta “Logue” Wooden. He married Helen Moore on April 27, 1941, in Patoka, Illinois and they shared 66 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on February 26, 2008. Mr. Wooden was preceded in death by his parents, son; Daniel Roger Wooden, Sr., sisters; Verdena Buchanan, Loretta Jamison, brother; Raymond Wooden, and infant brother; Ralph Wooden.
