2021 09/18 – Steve Carter

Steve Carter, age 66 of Salem, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Salem Township Hospital. Steve was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. He taught biology for 34 years at Wesclin High School in Trenton. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and coffee. Steve never met a stranger. If you sat down long enough with him you would hear about his angel of a wife, his kids, grandkids, and his dog Preston. He was loved by his fellow teachers, students and parents, many of which he still had contact with.

Funeral services for Steve Carter will be held at Noon on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Jason Webb officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Private interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the International Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia Foundation or the Josh Hines Memorial Fund at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem. He married Debby (Schmitt) Hines on November 2, 1984 in Mt. Vernon and she survives in Salem. Survivors include his wife, Debby Carter of Salem; three daughters, Lindsay Arnold and husband Kenny of Marion, Jenna Hilgers and husband Dave of Centralia, and Lauryn Brinkley and husband Jesse of Salem; sister, Bonnie Branch and husband John of Clinton, TN; eight grandchildren, Corban, Nolan, Selah, Kinley, Ryleigh, Sage, Moriah, and Kylee and husband Austyn; and one sister-in-law, Tracy Dorris of Mt. Vernon.

Steve was born on December 16, 1954 in Centralia the son of Charles and Dorothy (Nicolay) Carter. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Josh Hines; one sister, Charlene Carter; and one brother-in-law, Dan Dorris.
