Ernie Henson, 86, of Iuka, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021, in his home surrounded by his family.
Ernie was born April 26, 1935, in Iuka, the son of Everett Henson and Eula (Goosetree) Henson. He married Ann Henson on March 4, 1966, in Salem and she survives him in Iuka.
In addition to his wife Ann of 55 years, Ernie is survived by one son: Rollin Henson of St. Peter; one daughter: Laura Ellen Henson of Iuka; and one brother: Orrie Henson and wife “Perk” of Louisiana.
Ernie was preceded in death by his brother Harold Henson and wife Marge.
Ernie was a Member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church. He was a Master Gardner for the University of Illinois. He was a member of the American Iris Society, and American Daffodil Society. He volunteered for the Lifeboat Homeless Shelter. Ernie was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., and Salem Masonic Lodge. He loved the U of I Basketball Team, hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his loved ones.
Funeral services for Ernie will be held, Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. at the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Centralia with Pastor Ray Barnes officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12:00 P.M. till the time of service at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Centralia. Interment will follow at Bell Cemetery in Iuka. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Hill Baptist Church and will be accepted at L.R. Osborn & Son Funeral Home in Kell, IL, who is honored to be serving the family.
