2021 09/11 – Carlyn Dee Duncan

Carlyn Dee Duncan, 82, of Dix, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at his home that he built for his family fifty years ago, just across the road from the house where he was born and raised. He died in the loving care of his family, after a very brief illness with lymphoma. He was a graduate of Rome Grade School and Mt. Vernon Township High School, and was a long time member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, in Mt. Vernon, and over the past few years, attended Panther Fork Baptist Church, near Texico. He accepted Christ at a young age and tried to live his life by Christian principles.

Funeral service for Mr. Duncan will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with Rev. Merle Fullerton and Rev. John Ashby officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service, at the funeral home. On February 8, 1958, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, he married Barbara Joan Blackwell, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Barbara Joan Duncan of Dix, he is survived by three children, Lincoln Duncan of Dix, Kimberly Duncan of Mt. Vernon, and Whitman Duncan of Dix; nine grandchildren, Ryan Duncan, Savannah McCall, Lauren Duncan, Alexis Duncan-O’Leary, Ethan Duncan, Remington Duncan, Winston Jones, Miriam Duncan-Owens, and Zavion Duncan; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Merrilyn Brookman and husband Jerry of Wayne City.

He was born October 30, 1938, in Dix, the son of Charles Merrill and Florence Evelyn (Whitlock) Duncan. Carlyn was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-and-father-in-law.
