Lena Faye Johnson, 92, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 9:55 a.m., Friday, August 27, 2021, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.
She was born on September 26, 1928, in Woodlawn, the daughter of John Washington and Ada (Pierce) Harvey. On January 24, 1948, in Osceola, Arkansas, she married Gene Johnson, and he preceded her in death on September 14, 2017.
Love and dedication to her children and grandchildren were always Faye’s priority. Her Christian faith and power of prayer guided her through life. Her fried chicken always brought the family together on Sundays. Faye was a beautician for 46 years in Mt. Vernon, and also was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church. She will be dearly missed, as she was the loving heart of her family.
Faye is survived by two daughters, Marsha Gibbons and husband Grant of Odessa, Texas, and Pam Flota and husband Mark of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren, Wesley Williams and wife Beth of Woodlawn, and their children Zach Ashby and wife Samantha, Macy Williams, and Libby Williams, Eric Williams and wife Nikki of Glen Carbon, and their children, Evan Williams and Nora Williams, and Melia Steffy and husband Jeff of Mt. Vernon, and their children, Londyn K. Steffy, Lake Steffy and Garrik Steffy; one sister, Marge Morgan; one brother, John Henry Harvey and wife Shirley; and a sister-in-law, Kay Harvey.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Fred Harvey; and two sisters, Nellie Hougland and Cora Phelps.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Boyd Cemetery, with Marty Mills officiating. Attendees are asked to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.
