Erma L. Elliott, 94, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Decatur, Illinois, passed away at 5:45 pm August 26, 2021 at Meadow Lakes Nursing Home in Oklahoma City. Erma worked for the Summers Variety Store for a year and then at the Mount Zion Cafe for four years and loved it. Erma was a waitress and always remembered being able to recall what every person in her section ordered. She was a faithful member of Logan Street Baptist Church for many years. Erma loved to travel and camp, but most of all, she loved the time she shared with her family. She will be greatly missed.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Memorial Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Erma is survived by her children, Kevin W. Elliott and Theresa A. Cox and husband, Russell, all of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Kayla Elliott, Kyle Elliott, and Kourtney Cox, all Oklahoma City; sisters, Betty Dowell of Mount Vernon and Shirley Cook of Benton, Illinois; sister-in-law, Jan Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
She was born November 19, 1926 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late William Byron and Laura Elizabeth (Lisenby) Somers. Erma married Forrest W. Elliott on December 26, 1949 in Franklin County, Illinois. They were blessed with 49 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on March 8, 1999. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Erma was preceded in death by her brother.
