Helen F. Hodge, 90, of Centralia passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. Helen was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of First General Baptist Church in Central City where she loved on her church family. She was a former member of Temple Baptist Church, where she served as the secretary of her Sunday school class-Mary Martha class. She also was grateful to share her gift of singing by being a part of the church’s choir. She was a homemaker who took pride in taking care of her home and being there for her family. Helen was devoted to her husband as a loving wife and always had delicious meals on the table for her husband and stepchildren to enjoy. She had a kind, generous heart and would do anything for anybody. Helen was deeply loved by her friends and family, and she will be missed.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Bryan Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Odin. Friends are welcome to a visitation time from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Monday, August 30, 2021, at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia, and an hour prior to service time on Tuesday. Memorials may be made in Helen’s honor to American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association. Survivors include her brother Charles (Donna) Anspach; sisters-in-law Joanne Hodge, Mary Ann Hubble, and Melba Nolte; brother-in-law Bobby Hodge; stepchildren Michael E. Hodge, and Jerry D. Hodge; special niece Tammy Meyer; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
She was born on April 15, 1931, the daughter of John and Effie (Williamson) Anspach in Iuka. She married Eugene Hodge on December 9, 1967, in Mt. Vernon and he preceded her in death. Helen was preceded in death by her parents John and Effie Anspach; brothers Larry Anspach, Otis Anspach, Glen (Cindy) Anspach, and Joseph (Cathy) Anspach; her sisters Mildred Sinclair, Shirley Anspach, and Alma (Everette) Courson.
