Jerry L. Sechrest, 86, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 11:35 pm August 25, 2021, at Nature Trail Health Care in Mount Vernon. She was born December 1, 1934, in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Dwight and Elsie (May) Flota. Jerry married Donald Sechrest on February 3, 1956, at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on August 1, 2011.
Jerry is survived by her children, Vern Sechrest and wife, Patricia of Mannington, West Virginia and Teresa Garrison of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Vernon Dale Sechrest, Josh Garrison, Ashley Polk and husband, Jacob, Mary Stein and husband, Rob, and Billie Jo Sechrest and special friend, Tim Oliver; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Kathy Keu of Greenville, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Jerry was preceded in death by her son, Delbert Sechrest; and siblings, David Flota and Kim Flota.
Jerry was a faithful member of the First Free Will Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed.
A Visitation will be held Monday, August 30, 2021, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor David Shores officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Jerry’s honor to the First Free Will Baptist Church.
