Janet L. Featherling, 81, of Centralia, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. Janet was a member of the Central City Baptist Church. She liked sewing and will be remembered for being a loving mom, grandma, and great grandma. Janet’s family and God was the two most important things in her life.

A Celebration of Life Service for Janet L. Featherling will be held Friday, August 27, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Alan Nollman officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. A visitation will be held Friday, August 27, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Due to the recent CDC guidelines, those who attend the visitation or service please wear facemasks and social distance while in the facility. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Centralia Humane Society and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street in Centralia, IL 62801 (618) 532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Featherling family. Janet is survived by two sons: Mark Phillips of White Springs, FL and Brad Phillips and wife Alicia of Central City; five grandchildren: Joshua Phillips and wife Heather of Marion, Matthew Phillips of Marion, Sarah Roper and husband Glenn of Sandoval, Nicole Pierce and husband Craig of Belleville, and Ashley Mendez and husband Eddie of Vineland, NJ; ten great grandchildren; one sister: Wanda Wernsman of Salem; also several nieces and nephews.

Janet was born April 10, 1940 in Centralia, the daughter of Howard Cook and Dorothy (Branch) Martell. She married Charles Phillips and they later divorced. She married David Featherling in 1983 in Centralia. Janet is preceded in death by her parents: Howard Cook and Dorothy Martell; husband David Featherling, and a brother: Dale Cook.
