Alice J. Lambert, age 84, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, Illinois, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on December 1, 1936, in Richview, Illinois, the daughter of William D. and Berniece J. (Bierman) Mifflin. She married John William Lambert on December 21, 1957, in Centralia, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on October 31, 2016.
Mrs. Lambert graduated with Centralia Township High School’s “Class of 1954” and was a lifelong resident of Centralia, working for Kas Potato Chips for 32 years. She was a proud member of Calumet Street Christian Church and was a lover of all animals, especially her dogs Augie, Romeo, and Bruno. She was an avid traveler, taking her family on several memorable beach and mountain vacations through the years.
She also enjoyed working in her yard and had an amazing talent for growing the loveliest flowers. Once finished in the yard, she could often be found watching baseball, rooting on her beloved Saint Louis Cardinals. And each year when the warmer weather gave way to winter, she turned her attention to beautifully decorating the inside of her home, always making sure that Christmas was extra magical for her family. Christmas music was a constant, and it was common to hear her “boyfriend,” Vince Gill, on the stereo singing her favorite festive songs.
More than anything, she was happiest when spending time with her family. She and her husband, John, were always so proud of their three daughters, and for grandkids, there was not a more welcoming, loving place to be than Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Mrs. Lambert had a special spot in her heart for all her great-grandchildren and would often spend hours talking on the phone, dreaming up imaginary tales with great-grandson Zachary. Her family truly meant everything to her.
Mrs. Lambert is survived by her three daughters, Joni Durham and husband David of Centralia, Jodi Wolff and husband Randy of Centralia, and Jill Lambert of Centralia; grandchildren, Craig Wolff and wife Dr. Elizabeth Wolff of Salem, and Chelsea Ward and husband Cameron of Centralia; great-grandchildren, Zachary Wolff, Katrina Wolff, Grayson Wolff, Easton Ward, and Austin Ward; step-grandchildren, Benjamin Durham and wife Michelle, Allison Riggle, and Angela Luce and husband Ryan; step-great-grandchildren, Mara Durham, Francesca Durham, Austin Luce, and Addison Luce; sisters, Alberta George of Gilroy, California, and Judy Gramlick and husband Jim of Centralia; brothers-in-law Larry Lambert and wife Mary-Ann of Peoria, Illinois, and Ronnie Lambert and wife Melody of Vernon, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Lambert was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John Lambert; parents, William and Berniece Mifflin; brother, Charles Mifflin and his wife Dixie; sister, Loretta Burnette; brothers-in-law, John George, and Charles Lambert; and sister-in-law, Elsie Kelly and her husband Jerry.
