A 40 by 60 foot detached garage on the Alexander Minton property at 18,446 Irvington Road about a mile south of Wamac was destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon.

Centralia Fire Protection District Chief Ross Boshera says the owner had been cooking inside the garage on a small grill and thought the fire was out. However, after later looking outside he saw smoke coming from the building.

Boshera says by the time firemen arrived the garage was fully engulfed. In addition to the loss of the building, a lawnmower, tractor, and other items inside were also lost.

The Centralia Fire Protection District received mutual aid from the City of Centralia and Hoyleton Firemen. Lifestar Ambulance stood by at the scene. Boshera says there were no injuries.

The fire call came in at 12:23 Tuesday afternoon. Firemen were on the scene for about two and a half hours.
