Sandoval Police arrested a Carlyle man on drug offenses after a high speed chase on Thursday. Wabash Communications has started construction on a new $1.1-million office/warehouse facility on West Whitaker Street between South College and South Broadway. Salem Plant Supervisor Kurtis Gould says the facility will take the place of the current downtown office on East Main Street as well as replace rented warehouse space elsewhere. A dropped cigarette started a fire in a room at the Centralia Motel on South Elm during the noon hour on Thursday. Centralia Fire officials say the occupant had dropped a lit cigarette on the bed which fell onto the floor into clothing and bed linens. The occupant thought he had stomped the fire out, but it actually continued to burn in a pile of clothing and bed linens. One person was injured in a two vehicle crash on I-57 near the Post Oak Rest Area south of Salem last night. Preliminary information released by State Police indicate a van rear ended a car while both were southbound. The impact caused the car to run off the left side of the road and strike a tree. The Historic Locust Street Fair in downtown Centralia will feature a large number of activities and vendors on Saturday. Centralia Community Development Director Gayla Harting says events along South Locust Street will run from ten am to two pm. Centralia High School's 111th May Fete came to the stage for the first of two performances Thursday night. Jenna Wagner was crowned Queen and Destin Mays King. Seven groups performed various numbers, ending with the traditional May Pole and featuring the court performing a waltz.
