On Tuesday, November 12th, the Salem Community High School chapter of National Honor Society inducted 24 new members. Students were selected based on demonstration of outstanding qualities in the pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. The ceremony was led by NHS President Ella Douglas and officers Preslee Harris, Kennedy Finney, Chesney Clark, and Jaryn Haarmann. Friday is final day to sign up for Adopt-a-Family
Friday is the final day to sign up for the WJBD-Centralia Community Youth Center Adopt-a-Family program. Applications may be completed at the Youth Center at 1224 East Rexford in Centralia from noon to five and at the Bryan Bennett Library in Salem from 9:30 to 1 pm. A 33-year-old Oakville, Missouri man has been returned to the Marion County Jail on an outstanding failure to appear warrant. Todarrius Guyton is being held without bond pending a first appearance in court. Marion County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 63-year-old Walter Hollen of Queens Avenue in the Royal Lakes neighborhood in rural Odin for misdemeanor criminal damage to property. He was later released on a notice to appear in court.

Marion County Board to end animal control contract with Centralia
The Marion County Board has unanimously agreed to end its contract with the City of Centralia to house dogs picked up in unincorporated parts of the county. The decision comes when Centralia doubled the cost to $6,000 a month and dogs no longer being accepted when the pound is full. Centralia City Council approves liability insurance, workers' comp proposals
By Steven Stilt The Centralia City Council on Tuesday evening approved proposals for the city's insurance coverage services, accepting a proposal from Illinois Counties Risk Management for liability insurance and the Illinois Public Risk Fund for workers' compensation.
