Injuries plague NHL playoff teams

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The rest of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ playoff run won’t include goaltender Casey DeSmith. Coach Mike Sullivan said DeSmith underwent core surgery on Friday morning and will miss the rest of the postseason.

DeSmith entered the playoffs as Pittsburgh’s top goaltender with All-Star Tristan Jarry sidelined with a lower-body injury.

Injuries are threatening to tip the balance of a handful of first-round series around the NHL playoffs. The Penguins are down to third-string goaltender Louis Domingue against the New York Rangers.

The Washington Capitals are missing big scoring winger Tom Wilson against the top-seeded Florida Panthers.

The Nashville Predators are now leaning on Connor Ingram against the Colorado Avalanche with starting goalie Juuse Saros out.
