Centralia Police asking for public’s help in stopping and solving rash of vehicle burglaries

Centralia Police are seeking everyone’s help in stopping and solving a rash of vehicle burglaries that have hit the city in the past month.

Lieutenant Steve Whritenour says there have been over a dozen break-ins, all involving vehicles that were left unlocked.

Whritenour says they have video of four individuals traveling in a dark-colored vehicle checking doors on vehicles and entering those that are not locked.  He notes no locked vehicles have been entered.

Most of the vehicle burglaries have occurred on the southeast and west side.

In addition to locking your vehicle, Whritenour is asking residents who see suspicious activity to call the police department so they can apprehend those involved.   He says it would also be a good idea to not leave valuables in your vehicle or the back of pickup trucks.

Whritenour suggests turning on outside lights may also help scare away anyone trying to gain entry to your vehicle.
