Centralia City Firemen were called to an early morning fire at the Laura Mitchell home in the 600 block of North Beech Street early Thursday morning.
Firemen arrived to find a smoking lawn chair in the front yard they later learned had been set on fire by a family member. There was also a small fire in the exterior wall of the front porch. Firemen removed the paneling around the hot spot to make sure the fire didn’t rekindle. Fire damage was said to be minimal.
The owner did not wish to press charges over the lawn chair being set on fire, but an adult child who was allegedly involved was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for a mental evaluation.
Firemen responded to the call at 3:29 Thursday morning and were on the scene for about a half-hour.
