The Franklin Park Middle School Seventh Grade Blood Drive on Wednesday collected 93 units of blood. That’s well over the goal of 77 and the third-highest amount of blood collected in the 19-year history of the blood drive.
There were 22 first-time donors.
Science Teacher Joni Dorff, who has coordinated the event as part of the science curriculum all 19 years, says she could not believe the turnout considering the arrival of a winter storm in the middle of the drive. Dorff says some people were still coming in while the heavy sleet was falling.
The Red Cross says the amount of blood collected could save a potential 279 lives.
