Sandoval High School Student Council picks the theme A Sugary Sweet Homecoming to crown the 61st Queen and 35th King on Saturday, Feb. 26th at 6 pm.  Simply because it is “sweet” to have things almost back to normal for our homecoming event.

The event has been in planning since October.

Homecoming theme days for elementary and junior-senior high school

  • Monday—No school Presidents day
  • Tuesday—Welcome to Candyland:  dress as your favorite color of skittles candy
  • Wednesday—Pajama Day
  • Thursday—Throwback Thursday Dress in the style of your favorite decade.
  • Friday—Spirit Day:  dress in red and black or Blackhawk spirit wear

Weather permitting, the Homecoming event will have its 2nd parade thru town involving the court. The parade got such a huge response from everybody last year, it was requested again.

In order for the attendants and escorts, along with the King and queen candidates To be seen, we developed a small parade thru town that will include our local law and fire Officials helping with traffic and leading.  The parade will start at 3 pm from the Sandoval Grade School and will run through town down Main Street and make its way down Highway 50 back towards the High School.  We are hoping the weather cooperates and people can line up along the route to catch a glimpse Of the girls and guys all dressed up.  We have told the students to make it fun, build a float for themselves or be creative at this event.  The court will head back to the HS for pictures. Doors will open to the public at 5 pm.  Tickets are on sale now at a discounted rate until the day of the event, then tickets at the door will be 7$ adult, 6$ students, 4 and under free.

Shuttle buses will run from the elementary school, the Methodist church, the Apostolic Church, and the Catholic Church for anyone who wishes to park at one of those sights to be picked up.

The event will begin with a brief introduction by Alumni Brenda Kunick who will introduce this year’s mistresses of ceremony which In turn will introduce the 2022 court.

Our new Homecoming committee and changes will be announced and we will continue with our long-standing alumni portion by Missy Schlau and then move into the special selections added.  We did not get to have entertainment with all of the kids this year due to pandemic guidelines, but we did try to find a few ways to make it better.

We are excited to welcome an 8th-grade student from Franklin Park school, a Salem native and winner of the Illinois State Junior Talent Contest, Ella Draege to perform her winning song, Etta James “At Last”.

Draege was 1 of 23 entrants who had advanced from the county fairs around the state.

Another special portion of the event will be the VIP dance.  Each person in Homecoming was able to select someone who has made a difference in their life and they will get to share a special dance thanking that person.  Basically a heartfelt thank you.

The King and Queen will be crowned immediately following the special event additions.

Our Photographer Dasani Schaedler, will be taking candid photos and professional photos before the actual start of the event.  We have packet forms available for purchase to get plenty of candids and flash drive options of the day and we also have Wilkins Studios and FTS production in charge of recording the coronation so DVDs for a digital recording of the event will also be available for purchase.
