Maria Dawn “Dawna” Barrett, 50, of Howell, Michigan, passed away on January 22, 2022, at the University Hospital of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
She was born December 16, 1971, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to Bobby and Norma (Short) Liles. Maria married Richard “Rick” Barrett on May 6, 1995, in O’Fallon, Illinois. They were blessed with 27 loving years of marriage before her passing.
In addition to her parents, Maria is survived by her children, Richard Barrett II, Harrison Barrett, Hayden Barrett, Liberty Barrett and Donovan Barrett; brother, Bobby Liles and wife, Martha of Germany; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Maria courageously fought a 5 year battle with colon cancer, while being a loyal and devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend. Her unwavering faith in God was her guiding light throughout her life, but especially during her hard times battling cancer. She instilled faith and love for God in her children. Maria successfully home-schooled all 5 of her children and taught them the importance of loving life, just as she did. She was a wonderful individual and was an amazing role model for her children. She had friends across the nation who became rooted in their faith through her. She will be missed by all who knew her.
