A detached garage just a foot away from the home was heavily damaged in an early morning fire in Centralia.
Centralia City Firemen say a passerby saw the garage at the home occupied by Dashae Johnson and three others engulfed in flames and banged on the door to wake the occupants. All four were out on the fire department’s arrival.
While the garage was too far gone to save, firemen were able to keep the fire from spreading inside the home. The back siding, windows and soffit were all melted from the heat. A vehicle inside the garage will be a total loss.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but fire officials are leaning towards an electrical problem.
All available Centralia City Firemen were called in to fight the fire.
The home and garage are owned by Michael Phillips.
The fire call came in at 1:39 am. Firemen were on the scene for two and a half hours.
