The biggest turnout for this year’s City of Salem Halloween costume contest was among families.
First place went to the Lill and Ella Bayes family along with their dog who had a beach theme. The family of Jessi, Carter, Steve, and Leica Shanafelt took second with a Harry Potter theme. Third place went to Eric, Missy, and Xavier Reed with their Looney Tunes characters.
In the 0-3 category, Mays Mosbarger dressed as a fireman took first and Wyatt Cannall second.
In the 4 to 7 category, Axel Carlson playing a trash can took first. Isabelle Brooks as Baby Yoda was second, and Maddie Helm as Coraline was third.
In the 8 to 12 age category, Conner Malcolm took first as a Bonne character, Kane Ryan second as Cousin It, and Arianna Cooke as Stitch.
The contest was moved inside the Salem Theatre due to the threat of rain. The contest started a busy trick or treat night in Salem. A number of businesses set up in the downtown area in addition to residents throughout town offering candy to the Trick or Treaters.
