After four years of fundraising and watching construction over the summer, the Addy and Friends Inclusive Playground in Bryan Memorial Park is finally ready to open.
A dedication ceremony has been set for next Friday, November 5th, at four pm.
Shelly McIntosh led the fundraising for the Salem Lion’s Club Project and is pleased to see opening day.
“At a Lions Club meeting, they were talking about their Lions Club Centennial project for 100 years of service. So we discussed it at the meeting, set up a committee, and fundraised throughout the community. We got a couple of big grants. One from the Lions Club and one from the State through the City. Then we started to build and now we are about ready to open.”
McIntosh says Addy, who the inclusive playground is named, is looking forward to finally being able to play on the new playground.
Salem City Manager Rex Barbee says the last of the concrete has been poured for the walks leading up to the playground and the first of two new shelters is 95-percent complete. The second shelter and other park amenities made possible by the OSLAD state grant still need to be completed.
Everyone is invited to the dedication ceremony.
