Robert Earl Holst, age 78, affectionately known as “Bob” and to many as “Saturday Bob,” passed away on Monday, October 12, 2026.

Bob was born on August 2, 1948, at the family farm in Bloomsdale, Missouri, the son of Harley and Patsy Holst.

Bob was a man of hard work, strong faith, quick wit, and a deep love for his family and friends. He had a natural ability to make people laugh, and his humor and unforgettable personality left a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.

In 1966, Bob married and was blessed with two daughters, Dena Ann Holst-McCullough and Kristie Lea Holst-Blackman.

In his early twenties, Bob began what would become a lifelong career with Cisne Iron Works. Through dedication, knowledge, and a strong work ethic, he eventually became a partner in the business, remaining there until his retirement. His craftsmanship and contributions can still be seen throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. During countless family trips through the city, Bob would proudly point out the buildings and projects he had helped bring to life. These moments reflected not only his pride in his work but also his desire to share his accomplishments with those he loved.

During the Vietnam War, Bob was drafted into the United States Army, where he honorably served his country stateside.

Those who knew Bob knew that laughter was never far away. He was well known for his sharp wit, wonderful sense of humor, and ability to bring a smile to the faces of those around him. Whether you knew him as Robert, Bob, Saturday Bob, or simply Dad or Grandpa, he was a man who was truly one of a kind. He was a loyal friend, a hardworking man, and someone whose presence could brighten any room.

One of the most meaningful chapters of Bob’s life was his decision to give his life to the Lord. He was baptized at Trinity United Methodist Church, where he became a member and faithfully served both the Lord and his church family. His Christian faith became an important part of his life and the legacy he leaves behind.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Carol Holst; his daughter, Dena Ann Holst-McCullough and husband Macky, and their family, Danielle Carmesin and husband Travis, Rachelle Hicks and husband Clay, and Janelle Jones and husband Mikey, along with great-grandchildren Cole Carmesin, Carly Carmesin, Bowdy Hicks, Carson Hicks, Crew Hicks, Connor Jones, Lucas Jones, and Cooper Jones.

He is also survived by his daughter, Kristie Lea Holst-Blackman and husband Eric, and their family, Reece Kruse and wife Jayda, and Lea Spitler and husband CJ, along with great-grandchildren Nixon Kruse and Jules Kruse.

Bob is further survived by his stepdaughter, Nan Burkeen and husband Jody, and their family, Evee Burkeen, Gabe Burkeen, Addy Burkeen, and Paul Burkeen; and his stepdaughter, Shannon Simon and husband Bryan, and their family, Willow Simon and Ava Simon. Bob is also survived by many cherished friends and extended family members, along with his faithful dog, Roscoe, who brought him much joy and companionship.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Patsy Holst, and two siblings.

Bob leaves behind more than memories. He leaves a legacy of hard work, laughter, friendship, faith, and love. His mark can be seen not only in the St. Louis skyline but, more importantly, in the hearts and lives of the people who loved him. His family was his greatest accomplishment, and the time spent together, stories shared, and laughter enjoyed will remain treasured memories for generations to come.

The buildings he helped build will stand for years to come, but the greatest things he built were the memories, love, and laughter he leaves with his family.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
