The Wamac City Council gave its approval Monday evening on the purchase of a new vehicle for the city’s police department.
Police Chief Steve Prather reported to the council that he has been in contact with the Morrow Brothers dealership and anticipates the cost of a 2027 Ford Explorer to be around $63,000. The new Explorer will replace a police vehicle which was damaged in a recent accident.
City officials say they anticipate receiving an insurance check in connection with that accident, which will cover around $37,000, leaving the city to pay approximately $26,000.
The council voted to table a 20-year agreement with the Centralia Moose Lodge allowing the organization to use a building in Wamac City Park as its base of operations. Under the agreement, the Moose would pay one dollar per year to use the site and would be responsible for paying the water and electrical bills. Mayor Jackie “Butch” Mathus says the agreement is undergoing revisions, but he hopes it can be discussed at the next council workshop and taken up for possible approval at the next council meeting.
The council voted to set Trick or Treat hours for 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30th.
Also during Monday’s meeting, Mathus announced that a consignment auction will take place this Saturday, October 10th, starting at 9 a.m. in Wamac City Park. Proceeds from the event will be split between park maintenance and the veterans’ tribute at Kaskaskia College.
