Odin Fire Chief Greg Smith says a fire destroyed a family of three’s mobile home in the Royal Lakes neighborhood Tuesday night, leaving them homeless.
The Jeffrey Skibinski family of 2725 Queens Avenue was home when the fire started in a bedroom. They were all able to get out safely.
Smith says when firefighters arrived, fire was coming from near the center of the mobile home with smoke pouring out of other parts of the home. Firefighters entered through the front door to knock down the fire. Although firefighters contained the blaze, the home is expected to be a total loss due to heat and smoke damage.
The fire’s cause is believed to be a small hot water tank in the bedroom where the fire started.
The Red Cross was called to assist the family.
The fire call came in at 8:44 Tuesday night. Firemen were on the scene until 10:32 pm. Firefighters from Salem, Sandoval, and Centralia City were called for mutual aid assistance.
