Centralia High School celebrated the school’s 108th May Fete Wednesday evening by crowning two complete courts, for school years 2020 and 2021, as a result of last year’s cancellation due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Coordinator Molly Harlan says the 2020 Court was promised a live audience after last year’s May Fete had to be canceled. When practices started only 50 could be in the gym at a time and if needed they planned to perform it 10 times in order to let all parents see the performance. Harlan says fortunately restrictions have been relaxed.
“Despite the challenges, it seems like it came off very well as far as coordinating the two courts together it actually it sounds like it was harder than it was we just had up until April we had two separate practices we had 2020 court and then we would do 2021 court after that and they all learn their parts they learned their bows and they learned their waltzes and then in April is when we started putting them all together and practicing altogether there was pretty seamless because they already knew what to do we just had to combine them.”
Harlan is thankful the event was allowed to go on.
“It was hard it was difficult but it’s also super rewarding because the kids are so thankful and we’re just so thankful for the administration at Centralia High School that allowed us to work with whatever guidelines were given to us and do something for these kids so everybody’s happy to be here we’re just very thankful we were able to do it.”
