The Kinmundy City Council Thursday night voted to ask the city attorney to draw up an ordinance to ban the sale of Kratom and 7-OH in the city limits.  While there are no places selling the substances now, council members feared it could become a problem with larger cities like Salem voting to bar its sale.  The ordinance will be brought back at the August board meeting for a vote.

The Kinmundy Board to move ahead with seeking a $1.5-million state grant to make improvements to its sewage lagoon.  The work would include dredging out the lagoon and installing new monitoring equipment.   Two other phases are planned that would rebuild the aging sewer system.  Two additional grants would have to be obtained to complete that work.

The board also plans to apply for a state OSLAD grant for improvements to the city park if the city is listed on the state’s distress list.  The mayor has received notification the city will be on the list, but so far the status is not listed on the state website.  The Distress status would mean the city would not have to provide any matching money.

The board discussed banning guided fishing tours on both of the city lakes.  Board members are concerned that the guide is showing where to catch the biggest fish for a fee, potentially draining the lakes of its larger fish for fishermen.   A decision could be made at the August meeting.

The annual oil and chipping work is scheduled for August 3rd, weather permitting.
