Marion County Treasurer Gary L. Purcell has announced the mailing of the 2025 payable 2026 real estate tax bills.
A total of 34,427 bills have been issued, reflecting $49,239,344.66 in real estate taxes, an increase of 6.83% from the prior year. Additionally, $2,023,732.26 in railroad taxes will be collected.
Among the county’s taxing districts, Kaskaskia College experienced the largest increase at 19.85%, with an additional $644,163.26 to be collected for the college in Marion County. Salem Township recorded the largest decrease at 49%, representing a reduction of $192,426.00. Most of the decrease is the result of the Salem Township Hospital Board deciding to abate it’s tax levy this year due to its strong financial standing.
The first installment of property taxes is due July 17th. The second installment is due September 17th.
Residents are encouraged to carefully review their tax bills upon receipt. This is especially important for individuals who have recently bought or sold property, settled an estate, transferred ownership, paid off a mortgage, or are handling financial matters on behalf of a relative.
Multiple payment options are available for taxpayer convenience, including:
- Payment by mail
- In-person payments at most local banks and credit unions
- Use of the courthouse drop box (west side entrance)
- Online payments via ACH (e-check) or credit/debit card at ilmarion.com. Taxpayers using online bill pay through their financial institution should include their Property Index Number (PIN) with the payment to ensure proper processing.
The Marion County Treasurer’s Office is located in Room 105 of the Marion County Courthouse and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Visitors should be prepared for courthouse security screening and periodic parking limitations.
