Severe storms that passed over the region, resulting in tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings, produced some brief strong winds and small hail in some locations Monday night.

Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps followed the storm across the county, starting in Sandoval.  He reported strong winds and one large tree down across the 2200 block of Tonti Road, but no building damage.

There were some power outages blamed on downed trees and power lines.  Ameren reported 193 customers without power in Central City after the storm went through with several downed power lines reported.  Another 116 were left without power in the Walnut Hill area.  The power outage appears to be more widespread in Clinton County, with Ameren reporting the largest outage affecting 414 customers in an area between Carlyle and Hoffman.

Kaskaskia College reported the main college campus on Shattuc Road was without power after the storm.  The Trenton Education Center and other education centers were also impacted.

Utility providers are actively assessing damage, and restoration times are not known at this time.   The college operates across four separate power grids and is in community with each regarding service updates.

You’re asked to monitor your email and official KC Alert Communications for updates, including the status of Tuesday’s college schedule.

The tornado watch was lifted early for Marion County, but remains in effect until 11 pm in Jefferson County.
