The Salem High School Green Team had another successful electronic recycling day on Friday.

Coordinator Drew Johnson says 34 pallets of no-longer-wanted electronics were brought to the rear of the high school for the annual drive tied to Earth Day.

“A lot of TVs, a lot of microwaves, and a lot of computer towers as always,” Johnson said. “Every year I think, ‘well, everybody cleaned their closet out last year, so it’ll lighten up,’ and every year it seems like we get one more pallet load.”

Industries and businesses also brought in their no longer electronics.

“We’ve been very fortunate. We’ve had several industries, Americana and Salem Township Hospital especially, save stuff all year for us. That does help, because it not only keeps us busy, but the money made from this pays for the rest of our recycling effort.”

Johnson says the Green Team also works to recycle paper and aluminum cans at the high school.

There are four active members of the Green Team which is joined by a number of other students to empty vehicles that arrive for the recycling drive.
