The Salem City Council Monday night will be asked to approve the budget for the fiscal year beginning May 1st and the city’s new comprehensive plan.
The lengthy agenda also includes making North Washington Street one way from East Main to Schwartz Street. Four ten-minute parking spaces would also be created. City Manager Lisa Peck says the change will better serve the downtown businesses located on that block as well as the Marion County Courthouse.
Two downtown TIF district projects are also on the agenda. A $25,000 request is coming from Crescendo Properties, LLC for the replacement of windows and doors as well as work to slow water intrusion in their building at West Main and Maple Street. A $10,000 request is being made by Daniels Wilzbach PC on West Main to replace windows and doors in their building to help improve the look and shore up the historic structure.
The council will open a sealed bid to sell city owned land near the Westside Industrial Park on the East side of South Hotze Road south of Henderson Lane. The land is zone Industrial and the company’s use of the land would be compliant with that zoning designation. The name of the company is not being released until after the city takes action.
The council will be asked to approve a highway authority agreement with Knapp Oil for property at 500 South Broadway that requires environmental cleanup from a leaking underground storage tank.
The council will consider cancellation of an earlier agreement with Flock to provide license reading cameras in four locations as a result of changes in terms of the contract.
A new contract with the operating engineers union will be up for ratification.
Agreements for the July 4th fireworks display with the same $25,000 cost as the last few years and a renewal contract with a company to provide the Christmas lighting on the poles on Main and Broadway will also be considered.
The meeting begins at six Monday night at Salem City Hall, starting with a public hearing on the city’s budget.
