The Salem Community High School Board will see a major roofing project completed next summer that will include all educational sections of the main building.
Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering says the school board Monday night approved an amendment to its performance contracting agreement with Ameresco to oversee the $779,622 project.
“They did a thermal scan to see if there was any change in temperature,” Detering said. “With that, they’re going to selectively cut places out and replace them, then the whole thing gets a rubber coating over it, which seals it back up.”
Detering says it’s possible other summer projects could be added.
The board agreed to apply for a $50,000 state maintenance grant that will go towards the roofing project.
The board gave final approval to its tax levy for next year, which is 3.75 percent higher than last year’s property tax collections.
The board heard its yearly audit. There were no findings, and the district received a 3.9 percent financial rating. Detering says the only thing that prevent a perfect 4.0 score was the district’s amount of outstanding debt. The audit found the district had enough cash to operate for 334 days without receiving an additional money.
The board approved up to 25 students for early graduation with 14 planning to join the work force and nine starting college early. The other two plan to do a combination of both.
The board agreed to add eight security cameras from Security Alarm to cover areas that currently cannot easily be viewed by a security camera.
The council approved a new three-year contract with Bushue HR for human resources, risk management, and insurance consulting. Imming Insurance was awarded the bid’s worker’s compensation coverage.
The board filled all of its track coach openings. Trevor Greene will be head boys’ track coach and Dylan Courty assistant boys’ track coach. Mindy Veach will be head girls’ track coach, and Elizabeth Smith and Thomas Goff were hired as assistant girls’ track coaches.
