Franklin Park School to have “parade style” graduation; Salem Grade school calendar set for next year

Franklin Park eighth-graders will receive their diplomas in a “parade-style” graduation similar to the one held last year. The promotional ceremony has been set for Thursday night, May 27th.

Principal Tyler Lux said last year’s event that had each student presented their diploma as their parents or guardians drove in front of the school was well received. The district would still face limitations on numbers allowed in the gym if they held an inside graduation.

The School Board also approved the school calendar for next year. Classes will begin for students on August 17th. Superintendent Dr. Leslie Foppe says at this point they are planning on full day classes Monday through Friday. The district will return to a full week of Spring break after 62-percent of the staff favored a return to the longer break after just a few days off this year. The last day for students next year is tentatively set for May 20th.

Foppe thanked other schools and their students for support following the death of Franklin Park Student Wesley Hunter in a side-by-side accident. The district will honor Hunter’s memory with a bench. Omni, which is overseeing the school’s improvement program, volunteered to pay for the bench.

In personnel action the board hired:
 Tonya Pryor as a paraprofessional
 Jessica Lograsso as district secretary
 Suzie Hope as assistant girls track coach
 Tosha Lusch as assistant girls cross country coach

The board also approved the retirement of Marianne Rogers from the cafeteria staff.
