Mt. Vernon resident Dan Lovin has received the Bill Mehrtens Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police State Lodge.

Lovin has been the chaplain for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Mt. Vernon Police Department, and the FOP State Lodge Chaplain for more than 20 years.  He has been recognized with the National FOP Chaplain’s award, is credited with saving several officers who were contemplating suicide, and has performed numerous crisis interventions and stress counseling sessions.

FOP State Lodge President Chris Southwood noted for a man who’s not a police officer, Dan Lovin has done more than just about anyone to support and comfort our law enforcement professionals year after year.  Southwood adds Dan’s dedication to the men and women who protect and serve is truly a life well-lived.

The award was presented at the Illinois FOP board meeting in Springfield.
