Shotgun deer hunting season opens Friday morning and continues until dusk on Sunday.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is reminding hunters to be mindful that there are some limitations on use of technology while hunting.
The use of unmanned aircraft, or drones, for any aspect of hunting or recovery of wildlife is unlawful in Illinois. The Director of IDNR Office of Law Enforcement Jed Whitchurch says drone use goes against the spirit of fair chase and widely accepted hunting ethics. He says Illinois Conservation Police officers are monitoring for drone use during the fall and winter hunting seasons. The unlawful use of drones for hunting could result in enforcement action, including but not limited to the seizure and forfeiture of unlawfully used equipment.
The agency notes e-bikes may only be used on public access roads or designated bike trails on IDNR owned and operated lands.
IDNR officials are also warning that artificial intelligence doesn’t always provide the right answers on hunting regulations. Instead, you should utilize IDNR’s Hunt Illinois website and the state wildlife code for correct information on regulations.
