The Salem City Council Monday night took another step forward on resurfacing and making repairs to portion of Airport Road and West Whitaker Street.

Gonzalez Engineers was awarded a $75,000 contract to make plans to resurface to Airport Road from Boone to Mills Cart Road.  City Manager Annette Sola says there will also be some other improvements made to Airport Road as part of the project.

“We’ve got one area there where we’ve got a culvert that we’ve done some work on. That will be dug up completely and replaced,” Sola said. “We’ll look for a few soft spots in that road that are going to need some additional repair work, so we’ll get those things done prior to the overlay.”

Sola says the project is scheduled in the State’s fiscal year 2026 that starts in July of 2025.

Gonzalez was also awarded a $97,000 contract to make plans for resurfacing West Whitaker Street from Delmar to Westgate.  That project is current in the State’s fiscal 2027 road program.
