Three people received minor injuries in a Friday night crash on Route 37 near Broom Road in rural Kinmundy that occurred while Kinmundy-Alma EMTs were attempting to clear the scene of a medical emergency.
State Police say preliminary information indicates that an SUV driven by 22-year-old Andrew Peak of Salem passed a Kinmundy-Alma fire truck with its emergency lighting on and a worker present for traffic control. Peak then reportedly struck the private vehicle of a Kinmundy-Alma Firefighter with its blue lighting on as it was turning around on Route 37 to clear the scene of the earlier medical emergency. Peak struck the passenger side of the other vehicle driven by a 17-year-old female from Salem.
The juvenile and a passenger in Peak’s SUV, 25-year-old Logan Wood of Odin, were transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Peak was treated for minor injuries on the scene.
Peak was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper passing of an emergency vehicle, failure to wear a seatbelt, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage.
Kinmundy-Alma Fire Chief Kevin Day said they had responded earlier to a report of a four-year-old boy having a seizure while traveling in a car on Route 37. The car was pulled over to await medical help.
The medical patient had been transported from the scene before the crash occurred. Day says the boy was doing well following hospital treatment.
The crash occurred around 8:40 Friday evening.
