The Odin Village Board Thursday night approved submittal of a $1-million grant that would pay for most of the cost of hooking the west side of the water system to Gateway Regional Water.   That portion of the water system currently receives its water from Salem.   The application must be submitted by December 4th and most of the work has been completed.

The board is continuing to move forward with a second water grant application from the Illinois EPA that would allow for replacement of the water line that runs from the Centralia Water Treatment Plant to Odin and troublesome portions of the water line on Selmaville Road.  The total cost of that project is $2.5 million.  The village is hoping the grant will cover most of the cost.

The Odin Board continues to move forward on demolition of three downtown buildings.   The board is completing the process of finalizing the purchase of the former Jarnigan building for unpaid taxes.  A second building purchased for taxes by a Chicago man has now been donated to the village.   The village already owned the third building.   Mayor Greg Smith says once all the paperwork is completed, the buildings will be bulldozed down.   All three structures are in very poor condition and in danger of collapse.

The board is also in the process of finalizing the purchase of 3.5-acres of land at 811 East Poplar just west of Pieces Pool Supply from a private owner.  The goal is to interest Dollar General in putting a store on the property.  A 30 by 25 foot storage building on the land will be moved to the Odin Village Park where it will be used for storage.  The board plans to build new bathrooms next to the building which will be connected to the current concession building by a breezeway.
