State Police have released more details on a late Friday night crash involving four vehicles that sent two people to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
Preliminary information indicates the crash occurred on eastbound Route 161 just west of Moonglow Road when 22-year-old Jaydon Bateman of Salem failed to stop for slowing traffic and hit the car in front of him driven by 32-year-old Kelly Kalkbrenner of Walnut Hill. The impact forced her car into the vehicle in front of her driven by 67-year-old Kevin Van Zandt of Centralia. Van Zandt’s vehicle was then pushed into a car driven by 19-year-old Joanna Fogg of New Douglas.
Both Bateman and Kalkbrenner were transported to an area hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries. The other two drivers and a passenger in the Van Zandt vehicle, 63-year-old Tina Van Zandt of Centralia, all reported no injuries on the scene.
Bateman was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to wear a seatbelt, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
The crash was reported at 10:52 Friday night. Both the Centralia Fire Protection District and Lifestar Ambulance assisted on the scene.
