State Police investigate fatal police-related shooting of juvenile in Mt. Carmel

State Police have been asked to investigate a fatal police-related shooting in Mt. Carmel that resulted in the death of a juvenile.

Preliminary investigative findings indicate upon arriving at a residence on Lambert Drive on Thursday night, members of the Mt. Carmel Police Department encountered a juvenile suspect with a knife.  An officer discharged their firearm, striking the suspect and another juvenile.

Officers immediately rendered aid to both individuals who were transported to an area hospital.  The one juvenile was later pronounced deceased by the Wabash County Coroner’s office.

Illinois State Police continues to investigate the officer-involved shooting and will provide its findings to the Wabash County State’s Attorney’s office for review once complete.

The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is currently being released.
