The Salem Fire Protection District responded to a grain bin dryer fire and a smoky receptacle fire at its own training center on the Selmaville Road on Thursday.
Firemen say the outside of the training center building was being pressured washed when protection of an outside electrical outlet failed allowing the wiring to short circuit and begin smoldering. The short circuit caused smoke both inside and outside the building. The inside was cleared without any damage and the problem itself was confined to the outlet.
Firemen report the fire was out in the grain bin dryer at Three Gen Farms on Route 37 north of Basom Road. The fire may have started from a system problem. As a precaution, the dryer was emptied to make sure the fire didn’t rekindle.
