Illinois Fall Trout Season opens October 19th at several local locations

The 2024 Illinois fall trout season will open Saturday, October 19th, at sixty ponds, lakes and streams throughout the state.

The early catch and release season is scheduled to start October 5th.  No trout may be taken from any of the stocked sites until the regular fall season opens at five am October 19th.  The daily catch limit is five trout.

All anglers, including those who participate in the early catch-and-release season, must have an Illinois fishing license and inland trout stamp, whare are available at IDNR license and permit locations, including many bait shops, sporting good stores, and other retail outlets.  They may also be purchased on line with a credit card.

For more information about site regulations, anglers should contact individual sites that will be stocked with catchable-size trout.

Local sites involved in the fall trout season are Boston Pond at Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area, Mt. Vernon Game Farm Pond, Sam Dale Conservation Area Trout Pond, and Patriot’s Park Lake (the Greenville Old City Lake).
