The Centralia Firefighters Local 618 collected $2,884.60 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in a Fill the Boot program on Saturday.

Local 618 Secretary/Treasurer Devan Orrill says this is the first year they have been able to do the program since COVID-19.   He reports it is also one of their best year’s.  Only two other years in 2004 and 2006 was more money raised.

Thirteen firefighters and mascot ‘Sparky’ were part of the effort.

Orrill says they had one big donation of $350 from Schmitty’s Burger Barn.

Donations can be accepted through the end of the year.  You can make donations through the firefighters Facebook page or by dropping off a check at the Centralia Fire Department stations.   Firefighters have been involved in the Fill the Boot campaign for 70 years.

In addition to organizing thousands of Fill the Boot events, fire fighters dedicate countless hours every year to volunteer at MDA Summer Camp, working with children and young adults living with muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular diseases.
