Arkansas woman killed in three-vehicle crash on US 50 at Xenia

A 59-year-old Monticello, Arkansas woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash during the noon hour on Friday on US 50 at the Xenia-Iola road intersection.

Clay County Coroner Bryce Henry pronounced Mia Daniels deceased on the scene.

Illinois State Police say a vehicle driven by 44-year-old William Shufeldt of Iuka was attempting to pass other vehicles including a semi while eastbound on US 50 and struck the Daniels vehicle head-on.  Shufeldt was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.  He was ticketed for improper overtaking on the left.   The truck driver who also became involved in the crash was not hurt.

Henry reports an autopsy for Daniels has been scheduled to assist with the investigation.

Agencies assisting with the crash were Clay County EMS, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Xenia Fire Protection District, Flora/Clay County Rescue, Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police as well as the Clay County Coroner’s Office.
