Washington County included in major disaster declaration

By Bruce Kropp Sep 22, 2024 | 1:00 PM

Washington County is among seven counties included in a major federal disaster area by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.  The designation is the result of severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding from July 13th through the 16th.

Other counties included are St. Clair County in the Metro-East as well as Cook, Fulton, Henry, and Winnebago Counties.

Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-interest loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.  Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures.

Individuals and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas can begin applying for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362 or using the FEMA App.
