Air conditioner problem leads to haze and evacuation of Drury Inn in Mt. Vernon

By Bruce Kropp Sep 22, 2024 | 12:48 PM

The Drury Inn in Mt. Vernon was evacuated late Saturday morning when a haze developed on the fifth floor of the motel.

The problem turned out not to be a fire, but a freon leak in one of the air conditioner units.    Repairs were then made and those in the motel were allowed to return.

Before the problem was identified, Jefferson Fire and Centralia City Firemen were called to the scene for mutual aid.  Kell and Wayne City manned the Mt Vernon Fire Station in the event of another incident.
