The Board of Trustees of the Salem Fire Protection District hosted the annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony on Saturday in Bryan Memorial Park. The event opened with a memorial walk on Richter Drive that began around 8:45 am. The distance of the walk equaled the combined height of the twin towers. A bell stood at the end of the walk that each public spectator was able to ring as they walked past.

After the walk, participants returned to the Band stage for the memorial service at 10:00 AM. The Pana Fire Department brought their World Trade Center display with a piece of debris from the World Trade Center. After the ceremony, participants made their way to the afternoon activities, including food trucks and a water fight.
